31 May, 2015 -- Aplicaziones has announced an agreement with Zhone (NASDAQ: ZHNE) for the development of corporate networks based on its FiberLAN product range. Aplicaziones thus becomes a driver of Passive Optical Lans (POL) solutions in the Spanish market. In the words of José Manuel Cámara, Managing Director: "With the help of Zhone, a world leader in this type of solutions, we intend to bring all our experience in the design of GPON networks for operators now also to the enterprise market and especially to the hotel sector".
Aplicaziones is one of the leading engineering companies in the Spanish market in the design of fibre to the home (FTTH) networks for operators, with close to 1 million homes passed. Now, hotel customers can also benefit from the advantages of POL networks by reducing the complexity of their infrastructures and significantly reducing investment costs, network operation and environmental impact.
The deployment of a local passive fibre optic network allows to offer "quadruple play" services (telephone, TV, data and WiFi) in the rooms or flats, but with a drastic reduction in the total cost of ownership. The fibre optic distribution to the room is done through passive splitters that eliminate the intermediate technical rooms and network electronics required in copper/coaxial cabling deployments. This simplified design allows savings of over 50% in rack and conduit space, energy consumption, air conditioning and maintenance of electronic equipment. In addition, the use of fibre cabling protects the investment in the long term regardless of the adoption of new technology solutions.
Zhone's FiberLAN products follow the international GPON standard, which enables broadband connectivity at speeds in excess of gigabit and the integration of telephony and TV over the same network. The head-end hardware (OLT) offers the highest density of GPON ports in the industry, so that one unit of equipment occupying one rack unit can serve more than 1,000 rooms. There are also more than 30 models of ONTs to suit different connectivity needs.
