Indoor Location Services 2020 Gartner Report

 Gartner ILS 2020

15 January, 2020 - Gartner has just published its latest report on the Indoor Location Services (ILS) market. The report analyses the different leading companies in this type of solutions to meet the needs of, for example, companies, shopping centres, distribution, hospitals, factories, warehouses, industries, stadiums, transport centres, museums, universities, hotels and/or exhibitions.

These solutions use different algorithms, techniques, frequencies and architectures to locate static or mobile assets (people) with an accuracy of 1m. This is done using different radio systems and frequencies that are integrated into passive or active components.
New solutions incorporate the use of light, sound or any combination of different technologies. Some manufacturers even have a camera-based support system, especially in cases where people counting and/or access control is required.
To summarise, there are two technologies competing for this market. RFID and Bluetooth (BLE). Zebra is the leader in RFID and Mist (Juniper) has the most advanced vision through the use of BLE systems. Manufacturers relying on WiFI networks do not, for the time being, achieve the same performance in terms of accuracy and power consumption.

What is interesting is that Mist (Juniper) also appears to be a visionary in Gartner's WLAN market. So this company seems to be in a position to lead the convergence of IoT use in buildings by using these two technologies (WiFi and BLE) simultaneously.

Aplicaziones has had an agreement with Mist (Juniper) for 2 years to incorporate their technology into our localisation platform and to develop this market at a national level.
